Beyond His Silence by Robin Fotie

Recent UCLA graduate Kate Deverill travels to Portland, Oregon for a position as a teaching assistant. Assigned to the Special Education class, she finds that one particular student grabs her heart: a nonverbal autistic boy named Josh Connors.

Kate begins working exclusively with Josh, devoting herself to helping him find his voice again. After gaining his trust, she hears Josh finally utter his first word to her.

Despite Josh's progress, a series of accidents befall him in the weeks that follow. Suspicious of the injuries, Kate starts a campaign to find out how they are being caused, and vows to herself to protect the child at any cost. Her path to keep Josh safe leads her into much more dangerous and grievous territory than she had ever imagined, but she will not give up. She knows that somewhere beyond his silence are the answers she needs for his ultimate salvation.
